The Illinois Department of Transportation says that construction on Illinois Route 121 approximately 1 mile east of Toledo in Cumberland County will begin Wednesday, Sept. 4.

The work involves removing and replacing a box culvert and will require lane closures between Township Road 1350E and Township Road 1450E as follows:

• Sept. 4-8: Illinois 121 will be reduced to one lane with traffic controlled by temporary signals.

• Sept. 9-13: Illinois 121 will be closed to all traffic. A marked detour will be posted.

• Sept. 14-20: One lane will be open with traffic controlled by temporary signals.

All work is expected to be complete by Sept. 20, weather permitting. Motorists can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area. To avoid the work area, when feasible, use of alternate routes should be considered. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to changed conditions and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits, refrain from using mobile devices and be alert for workers and equipment.
