Altamont city council members heard this week that work continues on a storm sewer replacement project on West Division Street.

The project extends from Main to 4th Streets and will include new curbs, sidewalks and street surface. The roadway is concrete since it handles truck traffic to and from the elevator. The project is to be completed by mid-September, ahead of harvest season.

The Council approved a payment of $140,854 to Kieffer Brothers Construction of Mt. Carmel for work completed on the project.

Another storm sewer project was a topic for the Council.

A public hearing was held ahead of the meeting to seek input on a request for $500,000 in Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity grant funds to help finance a sewer line replacement project in the northwest part of the city. The Council then approved a resolution in support of seeking the grant funds. The City will not likely know whether they will receive the grant until after the first of the year.

Altamont council members also approved a $93,800 payment to Newman Company Contractors for painting the city water tower.
