Effingham Public Library board members have decided to try staying open on a couple of holidays in 2020.

Library Director Amanda McKay said the library typically observes 13 holidays. They've heard from the public, though, that some of those holidays aren't holidays for everyone.

For 2020, the library board agreed to try open hours on Good Friday and New Year's Eve. The library will be open from 9am to 1pm on each of those days. Staff members will get to volunteer to work and there will be incentives for working.

The library board also amended the Vacations section of the Personnel Policy. Staff members have been acknowledged for reaching employment milestones after their first, second and 10th year. It was decided to add a bump in vacation days after the fifth year of employment.

Board members were also updated on the library roofing project. McKay said the work should start in a couple of weeks.
