St. Peter resident Alexander Beccue was sentenced Wednesday to 30 years in prison for second degree murder.

The 26-year-old Beccue was found guilty in June of the shooting death of Joshua Smith of Ramsey in August of 2017.

Beccue was also found guilty by a Fayette County jury of unlawful possession of weapons by a felon. Sheafor sentenced Beccue to 10 years in prison for that offense. The 10-year term will be served concurrently with the lengthier sentence.

Beccue will have to serve two years' mandatory supervised release once out of prison.

Beccue testified at trial about his past drug use and the paranoia and hallucinations he experienced including the night of the shooting.
