Members of the Altamont Board of Education had the opportunity to tour district buildings ahead of their meeting earlier this month.

Members viewed improvements completed over the summer months at both Altamont Grade School and Altamont High School.

Board members then convened into regular session and heard about efforts by Alan Shumaker to install an additional swingset at the grade school, and thanked him as well as the Altamont PTO for a donation that made the additional swingset possible.

The Board also recognized the Altamont FFA Chapter for achieving a three-star ranking from the National FFA organization. It's the highest ranking a chapter can receive, with less than 350 Ag programs out of 8,000+ earning a three-star rating.

Altamont board members also handled two personnel items; accepted the resignation of certified staff member Rodney Redfern, and approving the hiring of volunteer assistant baseball coach Benton White.
