Replacement of signs and some baseball diamond repair were among items discussed Wednesday by the Effingham Park Board.

Park District Director Jeff Althoff said the sign replacement could include installing an electronic message board on the corner of Maple Street and Evergreen Avenue at the southwest corner of Evergreen Hollow Park. Althoff said the message board would allow sharing a variety of information to motorists in perhaps a more aesthetically pleasing way. The sign on the southeast corner of the park at Evergreen and Pelican would also likely be replaced, as well as signage at Community Park. Althoff is hoping to find some "graffiti-resistant" signage.

There was also discussion about repairs to the baseball diamond at Evergreen Hollow Park, particularly the outfield. Althoff said the fencing needs repaired or replaced and said the replacement work would be an opportunity to pull in the centerfield fence by 20 feet. It's now 380 feet to dead centerfield, quite a poke especially when the frequently windy conditions at the ballpark are considered. Althoff said the lack of drainage in the outfield area is also a concern so that might also be addressed.

The Park Board also discussed trading in a 2006 model truck, and some tree replacement.

Althoff reported that Park District baseball and softball has concluded, but soccer starts Saturday and flag football the week after that. He also shared that membership is up a little at the Workman Sports and Wellness Complex, and that the Junior NBA Program is getting ready to begin.
