A Mulberry Grove man has been judged fit to stand trial for murder, and his trial has been scheduled for November in Fayette County.

70-year-old David Bright is charged with two counts of first degree murder in the September 2017 death of James Skinner of Brownstown. Bright has been in custody since shortly after Skinner's death. Defense counsel later asked for the fitness exam and prosecutors had no objection.

Dr. Terry Killian examined Bright and his report shared in court earlier this month was that Bright was fit to stand trial. Judge Don Sheafor ruled the next day that Bright was fit.

During a pretrial hearing Monday, Judge Kevin Parker, now the trial judge, scheduled Bright's trial to begin November 18, with a pretrial hearing on October 29.

Bright could face 20 years to life in prison on each murder count. He is being held in Fayette County Jail in Vandalia on $1 million bond.
