Two Crashes w/Injuries in Town Tuesday

Effingham city police handled two crashes resulting in injuries. Both crashes happened on Tuesday.

One crash happened at 11:38am south of the intersection of South Banker Street and Douglas Avenue. A vehicle driven by 78-year-old Velma Hanna of Mason rear-ended a vehicle driven by 72-year-old Charles Mayberry of Effingham.

Hanna was injured and was transported by ambulance to HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham. No citations were issued.

The other crash occurred at 1:42pm at 405 South Banker Street. City police report a vehicle driven by 29-year-old Marshall McCleave of Oblong side-swiped a vehicle driven by 56-year-old Teresa Cheers of Effingham, causing Cheers' vehicle to leave the roadway and strike and damage a city fire hydrant.

Cheers and a passenger in McCleeve's vehicle, 23-year-old Rachel Mosby of Olney, were injured, but both refused treatment. No tickets were issued.
