Jasper school board members Monday renewed a contract for athletic training services with Biomax/Bonutti Clinic. The agreement will cost $8,900.
The Board commended Jill Bierman for being selected as Student Council Advisor of the Year at the State Student Council Convention, and Travis Wyatt for being elected Zone 5 director of the National Association of Elementary School Principals.
Charlie Woodard addressed the Jasper board to commend the students for a great trip and great behavior by the Art Club students to New York. Woodard also expressed his thoughts surrounding early graduation in the district.
Regarding the issue, the Board approved student handbook revisions and additions. An area of change to note is early graduation. Current Newton Community High School students will still be allowed to graduate early, but students entering their freshman year this fall will no longer have the early graduation option.
The Jasper Board approved a series of revised or new fees for the coming school year. Here are the new or revised fees: high school registration--$90...PE lock--$5...locker rent--deleted...hall lock--$5...activity fee--$5...Student Council--deleted...Drivers Ed Summer--$90 for classroom...Drivers Ed out-of-district--$250...PE uniform--$20.25...athletic participation--$25/student, $75 max, $100/family...athletic admission--$4/adult, $3/student...football reserved--$25/seat (four home games), $30/seat (five home games)...basketball reserved--$15/seat w/sports pass, $40/seat without sports pass...junior high registration--$60...activity fee--$5...hall lock--$5...athletic participation--$20/sport, $60 max, $75 max family...athletic admission--$3 adult, $2 child...junior high family athletic pass--$50...elementary or Kindergarten registration--$55...activity fee--$5...handbook replacement--$5...athletic participation--$10/sport, $50 max family. If a fee isn't listed, there was no change in the fee.
D. E. Martin Roofing of Lebanon was awarded the low bid of $23,696 to apply the coating on the junior high roof; pre-kindergarten playground equipment judged surplus was donated to the City of Newton, but the pre-K tricycle track was donated to the Village of Ste. Marie; and Board members heard that all school bus routes in Jasper County were 75 minutes or less.
The Jasper board authorized the attorney representing all affected taxing bodies to intervene on the Ameren 2009 property tax appeal.
In personnel action, the Jasper board recognized elementary teacher Jadean Horst and special education teacher Teresa Hartrich who are retiring at the end of the school year and Cindy Rife who is retiring as a classified employee as of the end of 2012. Resignations were recognized from Sara Maletta as a music and chorus teacher and from Katie Lurkins as social studies and psychology teacher and as varsity girls basketball coach as of the end of the school year. The Board recognized Robert Steed as a transportation summer student worker and Scott Mammoser as a technology summer student worker...approved Andy Baldwin, Patrick Rheingruber, Jake Schlich, Sara Ochs and Kristy Finley as volunteers with the high school marching band...and hired Sheryl Brinson as a head secretary. The Board also approved the honorable dismissal of Lisa Wallace as a bus driver as of the end of the school year.
