Stewardson-Strasburg school board members have approved a parking lot upgrade at the school complex.

Stew-Stras Superintendent Michelle Lindenmeyer said Hoelscher Concrete will pave a 30-foot strip of concrete next to the current portion of concrete paved earlier, out to the road. The work will cost $74,000. Lindenmeyer said they have been upgraded the lot as funds allow.

The Board also approved three additional ceiling cassettes for the grade school HVAC system. Again, the work is being completed as funds allow. Lindenmeyer said work will still need completed in the Art room, Band room and the Teacher's Lounge.

There was no action regarding renovations to the baseball field.

The Board purchased a year-old bus for $77,500; approved a copy machine lease agreement for two copiers; discussed splitting a 5th grade class but decided to wait on a decision until after registration for the coming school year; and agreed to hold a special Board meeting on Monday to finalize a contract with incoming Interim Superintendent Kenneth Schwengel.

Schwengel will begin his interim duties on Monday. He had retired as superintendent at Arthur-Lovington/Arthur-Hammond, but lives near Shelbyville. He was hired as interim superintendent in February after Lindenmeyer announced she would be leaving for a superintendent's job at Milford.

The Board accepted resignations from Jamie Brown and Heather Linder as cooks; took no action on hiring a Special Education teacher. The Board did hire Ian Kinkley as K-12 Music teacher, and hired Dorothy Long as a regular route bus driver for the coming school year.

Board members approved Jeremy Chaney as a volunteer assistant basketball coach, and approved hiring Justin Hunt as the full year Windsor/Stew-Stras head baseball coach. The Board also granted raises of varying amounts to district non-certified staff members for the coming year, and agreed to post the cook and part-time assistant cook positions for the coming year.
