A motorcycle and car collided near Lake Sara Dam Monday night.

State police report the crash happened at 10:40pm on East Park Avenue, just south of Augusta Drive.

A motorcycle operated by 60-year-old Douglas Buening of Altamont was traveling north while a car driven by 29-year-old Jade Price of Effingham was headed south. As the two vehicles approached one another, Buening's cycle crossed over the center point of the roadway and into the path of Price's car. Police say Price attempted to avoid the collision by braking and swerving onto the west shoulder of the roadway, but Buening's cycle still struck the driver's side of Price's car.

Buening suffered what police termed serious injuries that required him to be transported from the scene by helicopter.

Buening was cited for DUI alcohol, driving on the wrong side of the roadway and failure to reduce speed to avoid the crash. Price was cited for operating an uninsured motor vehicle.
