The Effingham Public Library board decided to retain its officers for the next year at this month's meeting.

Matt Greider and Dannielle Harden continue to serve as Co-Presidents, Sarah Ruholl Sehy will continue as Treasurer, and Charlene Topel will continue as Secretary.

The Board will need a new member, though, as Emily Gravenhorst has relocated to Altamont. Library Director Amanda McKay said Jennifer Wilson has indicated interest in serving on the Board and her name will be recommended to incoming mayor Mike Schutzbach for appointment.

Library board members approved changes as to when proctoring service will be offered and what it will cost, as of May 1. McKay said proctoring will be offered once a week and will be housed in the Bauer Room, a learning lab at the library. She said the move will make for a quieter setting for those taking tests or exams. Since a library employee will be assigned as a proctor, the fee for providing such a service will increase to $15 per test.

The Board discussed eliminating all fines from youth materials. Last year, the library forgave late fees if youths signed up for the summer reading program. Instead of fines, overdue patrons would get a bill. The Board is still discussing how to proceed.

Board members also discussed a roofing project needed at the library. There had been hopes of getting grant funding for the project, but the State has rejected the local library's request.

McKay said the Board will likely schedule a special meeting to consider moving ahead with the project.
