The Cowden-Herrick school board Thursday acted on transportation needs and on coaching assignments for next year.

The Board voted to purchase two 71-passenger buses and the purchase of a minibus. Two current buses were declared surplus and authorized Superintendent Seth Schuler to sell or dispose the units.

Board members voted to rehire these coaches for next school year: Katy Noble as high school varsity volleyball coach and Angela Jeffries as junior high volleyball coach; Andy Nohren as high school boys and girls track coach and high school cross country coach; Jennifer Hopkins as junior high boys and girls track coach and junior high cross country coach; Kimberlyn Youhas as junior high boys and girls track coach; Carolyn Wendte as high school girls varsity basketball coach and Larry Young as high school girls JV basketball coach; Marc Bain as junior high boys basketball coach; and Amber Skowronski as junior high cheerleading coach. Youhas was also hired as high school JV volleyball coach. No 5th and 6th grade basketball coach was hired. Tashina Calame's resignation from that post was accepted.

The Board discussed class sizes for next school year; hired Darryll Heimen and Madison Cherry for summer maintenance help; approved Mrs. Siddens' leave of absence without pay from May 20-28; and renewed a treasurer contract with Joann Davis.

Board members heard from Schuler that fiber optic is on track for completion at the end of May; the new welding booths have been installed in the Ag room; and that Bobcat shade track tents are finished and ready for weekend track meets.

The Board approved QNS upgrades and Chromebooks; approved half of the high school gym roof repair to include skylight covers; renewed membership in the IESA for next school year; and purchased Bobcat wall mats for the elementary gym.
