South Central High School student Jacob Hanks has been selected as one of five individuals to compete for State Star Placement.

Hanks also was selected to compete in the Poultry Production Proficiency area among four other FFA members from across the state.

Hanks represented District 4 of the Illinois FFA in both areas of competition. He is a member of the South Central FFA Chapter of the Illinois Association FFA.

Illinois FFA recognizes students in 50 different areas based on their work-based learning, also known as Supervised Agricultural Experiences or SAE. FFA members who demonstrate outstanding agricultural skills and competencies through record keeping, leadership and scholastic achievement may be considerered for this award. SAEs allow students to learn by doing by either owning and operating an agricultural business, working or serving an internship at an agriculture-based business, or conducting an agriculture-based scientific experiment and reporting results.

Hanks will not know his placement in the Star Award area until it's announced at the State FFA Convention in June. State Star Placement will be completed by a committee of agriculture industry representatives and teachers knowleadgeable in the work-based area.

Jacob is the son of Charity and Curtis Hanks of Iuka. He will receive plaques for his accomplishments at the Illinois FFA Convention June 11-13 in Springfield.
