Boy Injured While Riding Bike to School; Details on Earlier Crashes

A 15-year-old boy was injured while riding his bicycle to school Tuesday morning.

 

Effingham Police Chief Jeff Fuesting said the boy was riding through the intersection of Henrietta and Richland just before 8am when a truck pulling a trailer turned into the intersection and the boy's bike struck the rear of the trailer. 

The boy, whose name was not released, went into the junior high for help. School staff summoned an ambulance and the boy was transported to HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham for examination.

No citations were issued.

City police have released information on two crashes from last week involving injuries.

One crash occurred just after 5:30pm Wednesday at 4th and Hendelmeyer. Police report a vehicle driven by 20-year-old Isaac Currey of Neoga pulled into the path of, and was struck by, a vehicle driven by 35-year-old Linsey Storm of Effingham.

A passenger in Currey's vehicle, 22-year-old Kayla Currey of Neoga, was injured and was transported by ambulance to HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham for treatment. 

Isaac Currey was cited for failure to yield and operating an uninsured motor vehicle.

The other crash occurred at 8:32am Thursday at Banker and Hoffman. Police report a vehicle driven by 28-year-old Casey Burgholzer of Effingham turned into the path of, and was struck by, a vehicle driven by 42-year-old Jessica Beck of Watson.

Both drivers were injured, but both refused treatment.

Burgholzer was cited for failure to yield.
