Stewardson-Strasburg school board members approved a renewal of the district's sports co-op at this month's meeting.

The renewal extends the co-op through the 2020-2021 school year to align with the IHSA's two-year classification cycle. The enrollment of schools making up sports teams determines what class the schools compete in.

Superintendent Michelle Lindenmeyer said about 20 people were present, and two of those addressed the Board before the vote to extend the co-op.

The Board also approved renewal of a junior high co-op with Windsor and with Trinity Lutheran through the 2020-2021 school year, renewed a cross country co-op with the Neoga district for the coming two years, and hired Jill Spour as a fulltime Industrial Technology instructor, then agreed to split her time with the Windsor district.

Stew-Stras board members decided to seek all student fees the same for the coming school year except for an increase in side salads to $2. The Board also awarded a bid from Allred's Floor Finishing for refinishing the junior high and high school gym floors; heard from Lindenmeyer that the budget is still in line with projections; renewed membership in the IHSA and IESA for next school year; and discussed summer maintenance work including upgrades to the parking lot, Phase 3 of the grade school air-conditioning project, and replacing cafeteria tables.

The Board hired Amy Clark as a speech and language arts pathologist, Tammy Manhart a fulltime Math teacher, Courtney Deters as a fulltime Science teacher, Sara Kramer as a fulltime guidance counselor, and Tiffany Durbin as a summer custodian. The Board also accepted the resignation of Mary Jo Green as of the end of the school year due to retirement.
