Charleston PD Releases More on Weekend Shooting

Charleston police have released additional information on a weekend shooting incident.

Police say a 26-year-old man was shot in the abdomen during the early Sunday morning incident. The man, whose name was not released, was taken to Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center in Coles County and later flown to Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana.

Police say during the initial investigation, officers learned an argument between unknown individuals preceded the shooting. The shooting suspect has yet to be identified. 

Officers from the Charleston Police Department, with assistance from the Eastern Illinois University Police Department, Coles County Sheriff's Department, and Mattoon Police Department responded to the area of 7th Street and Buchanan regarding the shooting at 1:36am.
