South Central school board members Wednesday heard the impact of increases in Illinois' minimum wage on the school district.

Superintendent Kerry Herdes reported the District will be impacted by about $350,000 in increased costs over the five-year span of the hikes.

Herdes also reported on the impact of a one-cent sales tax to be considered by Fayette County voters on April 2. The estimate is that the District would receive another $125,000 annually to help offset the cost of maintaining district facilities eligible for improvements and repairs.

The Board approved a resolution to renew Working Cash bonds; approved an agreement with Bushue Human Resources, and set middle school promotion exercises for 7pm on May 16 and high school graduation for 7pm on May 17.

Board members amended the school year calendar to reflect snow days used. As of now, the last full day of school for South Central students will be May 22 with a Teacher Institute day on May 23.

The Board approved Jessica Lother to be Yearbook sponsor for the elementary school. Also, the Board accepted the resignation of Gary Kapper as high school teacher softball coach for the middle school and high school as of the end of this school year. The Board also accepted a letter of resignation from Kim Wright as a bus driver, effective February 28, and approved a leave for Connie Githinji.
