Effingham Unit 40 school board members heard Monday from those in favor and opposed to weighted grading.

A group of local residents who have studied the matter for some time and are supportive of weighted grading shared their findings with the Board, but four Unit 40 teachers who opposed weighted grading also spoke to the Board.

The information this month follows a presentation in January by Effingham High School Principal Kurt Roberts that recommended against weighted grading.

Unit 40 Board President Jeff Michael shared after the information was presented that he was pleased with the work by both those for and against the issue, saying this is how he wished all such issues would be approached. Michael said it would be inappropriate by the Board to take a "kneejerk reaction" to the issue, but asked members to take some time to review all of the information presented.

Michael said a special meeting would be scheduled within the month to discuss the issue and reach a decision.
