Sunday Stabbing Incident Injures Three

Three persons received stab wounds during an altercation in Effingham on Sunday evening.

The Effingham Police Department was notified about 6:45pm of a fight with injuries that had just occurred between multiple individuals in the 600 block of Edgar Avenue. Officers arrived on scene to find one male subject who had sustained knife wounds.

While investigating, officers were advised that HSHS St. Anthony’s Hospital had received two additional stab wound patients. Throughout the course of the initial investigation, officers were able to determine there were five males (four adults and one juvenile) involved in the altercation.

Detectives are continuing to interview all parties and witnesses. No arrests have been made at this time as the investigation is on-going. Motives for the fight are currently being explored. All three victims who sustained injuries were treated at HSHS St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital. Illinois State Police Crime Scene Unit is assisting the department.

Chief Jeffrey Fuesting praised the swift response of Officers, “Patrol Officers arrived on scene within a minute of being dispatched and were able to gather enough information to determine immediately that this was an isolated incident and there was no additional threat to the neighborhood or community.
