The death of a rural Martinsville woman in 2014 has been solved through the confession of her then-boyfriend.

The suspect, 24-year-old Connor W. Scott, phoned the Danville, Indiana Metropolitan Police Department overnight to confess to the murder of Kaylyn Whitaker.

Illinois State Police had responded on October 31, 2014 to a rural residence near Martinsville in regards to Whitaker's death. During the probe, suspicious circumstances led investigators to turn the case from an initial report of a suicide to a homicide investigation.

Early Monday, nearly 4-1/2 years after the incident, Scott contacted Danville police in Hendricks County, Indiana, to confess to the murder. Following an initial statement to Danville police, Illinois State Police conducted an interview and received a recorded confession from Scott.

Scott is being detained at the Hendricks County Jail. An arrest warrant was issued today for Scott with a $1 million bond. Charges of first degree murder and extradition to Illinois to face the charges are pending.
