Effingham County Clerk Kerry Hirtzel told the County Board Tuesday that Early Voting for the April 2 election begins Thursday.

Hirtzel reminded that Early Voting will be done on the first floor of the Effingham County Office Building due to the lack of elevator service in the building. He encouraged voters to be patient with the modified conditions for voting.

Early Voting will continue through April 1, the day before the election.

Hirtzel reminded that registration for the April election closes on March 5. Grace Period voting begins March 6, when you can register and then vote that same day.

Also Tuesday, the County Board approved a opt-in form for electronic recycling. The program is offered at no cost to the County. The program will be offered up to four times a year as an option to dispose of electronic devices.

The Board also awarded a bid for a phone system to Gibson Teledata for $74,999 the first year, and then $12,000/year for each of the last four years of the agreement. It was also agreed to replace three sculptures on the Courthouse lawn as part of the Sculptures on the Avenues project; and the Board agreed to enter into an agreement for an energy audit by Smartwatt Energy to see what the County might save on energy costs.

Matt Sager was named to the Ambulance Oversight Committee, succeeding his wife, Kelly Sager; and two transportation safety projects were approved. One is to replace a bridge a mile south of Moccasin Road, two miles east of Moccasin; the other, a plat of Conley Subdivsion, southeast of Effingham County Memorial Airport.

The Board also came out of a closed session and hired an Acting Animal Control Warden. Jadi Hetzel's performance will be reviewed after 90 days, when a decision on a permanent warden could be made.

Board member Doug McCain was absent from Tuesday's meeting.
