The deadline to apply for scholarships through Southeastern Illinois Community Foundation is 11:59 p.m. on Thursday, February 14, 2019. All applications and references must be completed by this deadline. This year, the Community Foundation has more than $250,000 available in scholarship awards for qualifying students from Effingham County.

The Community Foundation offers six scholarships to students in Effingham County.

The Croft Brothers Challenge Scholarship was established by Terry Croft in honor of his late brother, Larry Croft. Larry was an intelligent individual who had the misfortune to grow up in a time when there were insufficient opportunities available to young people with exceptional learning needs. Terry Croft, who died in June of 2010, created the Croft Brothers Challenge Scholarship through his will to provide educational opportunities to students with disabilities. Scholarships up to $2,500 each may be awarded to qualified applicants. Prior recipients of the scholarship may reapply.

The Roy H. Robson and Roma M. Jackson Nursing Scholarship awards range from $1,000-$3,000 to provide assistance to current and previous graduates from any high school in Effingham County seeking a nursing degree. The scholarship was created by Roy Robson and his sister Roma Jackson in memory of their sister, Mary Robson. Mary was diabetic and required considerable nursing care. Roy and Roma saw first-hand the need for good nursing care and provided a bequest establishing a permanent endowment for nursing scholarships. Prior recipients of the scholarship may reapply.

Seniors at Teutopolis High School may apply for the Delbert E. Facklam and Maradyl T. Hughes Facklam Scholarship. This scholarship was established for the purpose of perpetuating higher education opportunities for Teutopolis High School graduating seniors.

Seniors at Dieterich High School may apply for the Dieterich Community Education Foundation Scholarship. This scholarship was established for the purpose of perpetuating higher education opportunities for graduating seniors at Dieterich High School.

The Ray, Mary and Tim Niebrugge Scholarship is awarded to multiple recipients and is open to graduates of any high school in Effingham County. Applicants may be planning to enroll as a first-year college/university/technical school student or may be a returning college/university/technical school student (even those without consecutive semesters of enrollment). Applications will also be accepted from adult students seeking to complete a two or four-year degree or technical training regardless of the year they graduated from high school. Prior recipients of the scholarship may reapply.

The Thomas J. Epplin Health Profession Scholarship provides assistance to students seeking health profession careers. Students from St. Anthony High School (Effingham), Vandalia High School or Pinckneyville High School who are pursuing a minimum degree of Bachelor of Science in dentistry, medicine, optometry, pharmacy, physician assistant, or nursing may apply. Scholarships of up to $1,000 may be awarded.
