Looking for a unique gift item? Consider the Manufacturing program at Effingham High School as a resource.

The program's instructor, Ty Totten, and two students in the class Cole Marxman and Levi Jones, were guests at the Effingham Noon Rotary Club meeting on January 30 to share their successes. Noon Rotarian Jason Fox served as weekly program chairman.

Totten discussed how the program has grown and how profits from items produced by the students and sold to the public have helped financed that growth. A variety of items are being produced by the class members and marketed through the class' Facebook page.

The program has proved successful for the students. Jones, for instance, spoke about job offers he's received from local manufacturing firms based on what he's learned in the class.

The program is drawing attention in the manufacturing world, as Totten will soon be receiving a state award for the program and Marxman was featured on the cover of a magazine focusing on manufacturing.
