Winter winds are picking up some steam this week and even some snow is in the forecast for some parts of Illinois. “I think there may be some one or two inch snow fall amounts, especially on the grassy areas,” said meteorologist Dan Hicks with Freese-Notis Weather during a Tuesday visit on RFD Today. “It looks like that temperatures may be somewhat marginal for a lot of it to stick on the roadways.”

Over the next three or four days, high temperatures will drop down into 30s – even 20s in some parts of Illinois.  A far cry from Monday when most of Illinois was well into the 50s and 60s.The best chance for snow is Friday night into Saturday.

“With that system coming in from the west, there will be some light snow, especially central and northern Illinois and probably some light mix in the south,” Hicks said. “But no sign of any major winter storms and no sign of any unusually cold weather.”

As for the first week of January, temperatures are running six to 12 degrees above normal across Illinois and much of the Midwest.
