A Neoga man was injured Monday night in a fire in his house.

Neoga officials are not releasing the man's name. He was taken to Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana.

The fire was reported at 10:20pm Monday at 737 Franklin Avenue, about a block from Jennings Park. The man was alone in the house.

Neoga Assistant Fire Chief Alan Baker said the fire started in the garage. Those who reported the fire said they heard an explosion, then saw smoke coming from the house.

Baker said firefighters were able to contain the fire to the garage, but said there was smoke damage throughout the ranch-style home, especially in the attic area.

A State Fire Marshal's Office worker was called in to help determine the cause of the fire, but the cause is still officially undetermined.

Sigel firefighters were called to the scene until their automatic aid agreement with Neoga, and Neoga Ambulance Service also assisted.

Fire crews completed their work at 12:45am Tuesday.
