A man who had recently been living in San Antonio, Texas, has been sentenced to 14 years in prison in an Effingham County methamphetamine manufacturing case.

39-year-old Wally Nichols was arrested in July, originally for manufacturing meth at a residence in close proximity to a local school. That charge was dismissed in exchange for the simple charge of meth manufacturing, but the count to which Nichols pled guilty is still a Class X felony, meaning mandatory prison time. Nichols could have received as little as six years in prison, or as much as 30 years.

Nichols was given credit for 115 days served while awaiting disposition of his case. He will have to pay close to $6,000 in other penalties, and will be on mandatory supervised release for three years once out of prison.
