The countywide officials elected in November were sworn in to begin new terms Monday morning.

Effingham County Clerk Kerry Hirtzel explained that he was sworn in by his chief deputy clerk before the ceremony began. Hirtzel then swore in Sheriff Dave Mahon, Supervisor of Assessments Pam Braun, Coroner Kim Rhodes and Treasurer Paula Miller.

Hirtzel is beginning his fifth term as county clerk. Braun is starting her third term after being named to fill a vacancy to begin her tenure. Mahon is starting his second term as sheriff. Rhodes has been serving as coroner since being appointed to the post earlier this year following the death of Duane Guffey. Miller is beginning her first term, although she has worked in the treasurer's office for many years.
