Kinmundy-Alma Fire Chief Richard Day says a search for a person possibly struck by a freight train between Kenco Road and Alma crossing has ended with nothing found.

However, the investigation continues as State Police await video from the engine of the train to determine why both the engineer and conductor of the train were so positive they had hit a pedestrian.

A three-hour search was conducted along the section of Canadian National from Kenco Road north to the Alma crossing after the incident was reported at 11:30 Sunday night to the sheriff’s department. When nothing was found in the dark, searchers gathered again for another two hours to comb through the area along the tracks Monday morning.

Day says they could find nothing along the tracks that may have been hit that would have caused the engineer to feel he had hit a person.

About a dozen Kinmundy-Alma Firefighters joined State Police, Marion County Sheriff’s Deputies and Canadian National Police in the early morning search, while firefighters, State Police and railroad police returned for the additional search Monday morning.

The northbound freight train stopped after the incident and remained on the scene for three hours while the initial search was completed.
