12-Year Prison Term Returned in Fayette County for Drugs

A Las Vegas resident has been sentenced to 12 years in prison in a Fayette County drug case.

53-year-old Emigdio Penuelas-Medina pleaded guilty to a count of unlawful possession of a controlled substance. Judge Kimberly Koester returned the 12-year sentence.

Penuelas-Medina was arrested by state police in May on I-70 near St. Elmo for traffic violations. During the traffic stop, troopers discovered approximately $1.1 million in cocaine in the rental truck driven by Penuelas-Medina. 65 kilograms of cocaine was seized during the stop.
