The Effingham Public Library Board has made its 8am opening time permanent.

The library had experimented with the earlier opening time and received good reponse, including new patrons utilizing the facility.

The Board approved a fiscal year levy calling for a less-than-$500 increase in the total amount. The levy totals just more than $922,000.

Board members also decided to end their after-school student activities program at 5:30pm, rather than 6pm. Library Director Amanda McKay said most students are gone by that time, anyway, and provision will be made for any children who might stay beyond 5:30.

The library will participate in the Rotary Halloween Parade on October 28. McKay said the library will have a "Peter Pan" entry in keeping with this year's parade "Disney Characters" theme.

Board members voted to seek proposals for on-site accounting services. Proposals are due by November 2.
