AmerenIllinois Electric Rates are Dropping

The rates you pay for electricity through Ameren Illinois are dropping.

The utility's new electric supply rates for those customers who get their power from Ameren Illinois and not a third party will be 5.038/kWh. For residential customers, that is 18.3% lower than this time last year. Citizen's Utility Board spokesman Jim Chilsen says there are some out there that will use this news to try and switch you to their plan, which may be way more expensive.

Ameren Illinois does not profit from or mark-up the cost of electricity, and the decrease is due to reforms in the yearly electricity auction held by the Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO), the power grid operator for all or parts of 15 states, including Central and Southern Illinois.
