(A GROUP OF CROSS BOARD MEMBERS AND VOLUNTEERS GATHERED MONDAY FOR A CEREMONIAL GROUNDBREAKING FOR THE CROSS AT THE CROSSROADS)

A ceremonial groundbreaking for a planned expansion of the Cross at the Crossroads site in Effingham took place Monday afternoon. The ceremony was held just ahead of the Cross Welcome Center Appreciation Banquet.

Our Greg Sapp spoke with Cross Board President Christy Hakman about the plans for the project...

Among those gathered was Verena Allen, who has contributed the funding for the second statue to be placed on the grounds. The first statue is being funded by the COHIHO Foundation, established by the late Joe and Suzette Brumleve.

The plans include new landscaping and a walking path featuring 10 life-sized statues of Jesus at various times in His life on Earth. The commissioned statues will hopefully be unveiled in Spring 2019. Additional site plans include the addition of a band shell and outdoor restrooms, as well as an expanded parking area and volunteer and donor recognition area.
