A Vandalia man was injured in a crash on US Route 40 near Brownstown.

23-year-old Colton Hagy was traveling on the highway just south of I-70 at the Brownstown/Bluff City interchange when he fell asleep. Hagy's SUV left the roadway to the left, went down an embankment and overturned onto the driver's side.

Hagy was airlifted by Arch Air to Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis due to his injuries.

The crash happened at 9:20am Thursday. Hagy was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid the crash, operating a vehicle without insurance, and possession of less than 10 grams of cannabis.
