Two local residents have been deployed to the Carolinas to offer assistance in the aftermath of Hurricane Florence.

Effingham County Emergency Management Agency Director Pam Jacobs shared information about the deployments.

One individual is Brad Bryant, who is a volunteer and trainer for the American Red Cross and is working in Columbia, South Carolina.

Bryant is the Red Cross trainer who has taught all the shelter training classes conducted in Effingham County over the past five years. Jacobs said Bryant is one of just three Red Cross volunteers who were in Effingham County helping during the big snowstorm in 2014. She said it's believed there are now more than 30 Red Cross shelter volunteers in the county, thanks to Bryant's efforts.

The other person from Effingham County who has been deployed is Susan Poe, who left Saturday morning for North Carolina. Jacobs said Poe has been a Red Cross volunteer since July 2017. This is her second disaster relief deployment with the Red Cross. Jacobs said Poe is an "invaluable member" of the team at the Effingham County Emergency Management Agency.
