The Effingham City Plan Commission Tuesday voted to recommend the City Council rezone the property currently housing the Gabby Goat restaurant and the adjoining property immediately south of the restaurant.

The Gabby Goat parcel, which once housed the Greyhound Bus Terminal in Effingham, is zoned highway commercial, while the tract to the south is zoned light industrial as it was once part of the John Boos and Company plant. Both would be rezoned to general commercial district under the plan.

Gabby Goat owner Jack Thompson wants to utilize the parcel to the south for more than 90 parking spaces for his restaurant. Thompson is purchasing the land from the City, which became the owner as part of an agreement with John Boos when the plant moved south of town.
