An Effingham man believed to have suffered a medical emergency was pronounced dead Saturday morning after a crash in Heartville.

60-year-old James N. Conder was exiting the Dollar General store along US Route 45 in Heartville at 11:10am. The vehicle drove across both lanes of the highway and struck the Layton Davis Building east across the highway from the store. The vehicle and the Layton Davis Building suffered minor damage.

Authorities believe Conder suffered the medical emergency while pulling out from the Dollar General store, causing him to lose control of the vehicle. The Effingham County Coroner's Office pronounced Conder dead at the scene of the incident. The Coroner's Office is investigating the cause of death.
