Illinois US Senator Dick Durbin has honored his late colleague Arizona Senator John McCain.

On the Senate floor, Durbin said McCain's death after a battle with brain cancer leaves a void on Capitol Hill...

Durbin credited McCain with making tough votes on issues like immigration and health care that generated unfavorable response from many conservatives, a group McCain relied on as a Republican for re-election. Durbin said their friendship, which dated back to the early 80s when both served in the US House, was strained on occasion, but survived all challenges, including McCain campaigning for current Illinois House Minority Leader Jim Durkin against Durbin in a 2002 Senate race.
