The Effingham County Board's Legislative Committee Monday agreed to extend the deadline for those seeking a seat on the county 911 board to file their candidacy.

The deadline had been Monday, but eight people had already indicated their interest by the time the Legislative Committee, indicating to the committee that the deadline to apply should be extended to 4pm on May 31.

There are three seats on the 911 Board to be filled, but one term expires this month.  The Committee agreed to recommend Ted Heath to fill the vacancy, being vacated by Kate Weber of St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital.  Heath has been in banking in Jasper County, but also has been involved in law enforcement for several years.

The other two terms don't expire until next month, those now held by Ken Schwerman and Terry White.  White has applied for a new term, but not Schwerman.  Other hopefuls are Cathy Williams, Larry Thies, Scott Beal, John Lange, Norbert Soltwedel and Adam Huston.
