Alleged Adult Store Robber in Court

An alleged holdup man at the adult bookstore outside Edgewood was in court Thursday.

25-year-old Ricky Growe was arrested in late May after allegedly holding up the Adult Times store, allegedly displaying a handgun during the robbery.

Growe had been held in Jefferson County, where he was arrested later that day. He was arrested there for holding up the gas station at Dix, near Mt. Vernon. He allegedly attempted to elude police by exiting off and back onto I-57, eventually being stopped when police used stop sticks to flatten the tires on his vehicle.

Growe was returned to Effingham County on Wednesday for a Thursday court appearance. In court, a defense motion to allow Growe, who has posted bond, to leave the state of Illinois was denied.

A pre-trial for Growe in Effingham County was scheduled for August 22. No jury trial date has been set.
