A 27-year-old Salem man was injured in a two-vehicle crash Wednesday morning on southbound Interstate 57 just south of the Watson/Mason exit. It was his second crash of the week on the interstate.

State Police say preliminary investigative details show Cole Lake apparently fell asleep behind the wheel and ran into the rear of a semi that was in front of him in the driving lane. Lake’s car became stuck under the semi-trailer. He was taken to St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital for treatment of injuries. Lake was ticketed for following too closely. The driver of the semi, 48-year-old Florian Risilia of Chicago, was not injured.

The crash occurred at 7:22 Wednesday morning.

On Monday morning, Lake was involved in another crash on southbound I-57 two miles north of the Salem exit when he struck the rear of a van in front of him. Lake escaped injury in that crash, but the two occupants of the van went to Salem Township Hospital for treatment. Lake was ticketed in that crash for following too closely as well.
