Efforts continue today to recover the body of a man who drowned Saturday in the Kaskaskia River near Cowden.

Shelby County Dive Team Commander Austin Pritchard said crews worked Wednesday from 8am to 2pm, now utilizing scent dogs to aid in their efforts, but could not get to the area where they believe the body is located.

Pritchard said there is another area where debris needs cleared. He said, "We are still plugging away."

The victim was one of a group of people kayaking and tubing down the Kaskaskia when his kayak apparently got into an undertow around the debris in the river and was sucked under the debris.

We will keep you up-to-date on the recovery efforts.
