State Crop Report for Week Ending July 1

Scattered showers and high temperatures reported throughout Illinois last week.

Activities last week included silage chopping and wheat harvest. There were 4.0 days suitable for fieldwork during the week ending July 1.

Statewide, the average temperature was 77.5 degrees, 3.2 degrees above normal. Precipitation averaged 1.26 inches, 0.37 inches above normal.

Topsoil moisture supply was rated at 1 percent very short, 6 percent short, 75 percent adequate, and 18 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated at 2 percent very short, 11 percent short, 75 percent adequate, and 12 percent surplus.

Corn silking reached 40 percent, compared to 11 percent for the 5-year average. Corn condition was rated at 2 percent very poor, 2 percent poor, 12 percent fair, 52 percent good, and 32 percent excellent. Soybeans blooming reached 44 percent, compared with 14 percent last year.

Soybean condition was rated at 2 percent very poor, 3 percent poor, 17 percent fair, 53 percent good, and 25 percent excellent.

Sorghum condition was rated at 6 percent poor, 43 percent fair, 46 percent good, and 5 percent excellent.

Winter wheat harvest was 83 percent complete, compared to the 5-year average of 67 percent.
