City, County EMA Advising Caution During Excessive Heat Warning

The City and County of Effingham will be under an Excessive Heat Warning Friday and Saturday with heat indices expected above 100. Residents are encouraged to take precautions while working or participating in recreational activities outdoors.

The City and County of Effingham Emergency Management Departments and the Effingham County Health Department encourages residents to:

*Stay Hydrated by drinking at least 1 ½ to 2 quarts of fluids daily.

*Avoid alcoholic Beverages and drinks containing caffeine.

*Avoid overexertion and strenuous outdoor activities if possible.

*Check on elderly family and friends.

*Make sure Pets have extra water and for pets outside provide shaded area.

*If you or someone around you begins experiencing dizziness, headache, confusion and a rapid pulse, seek medical attention immediately, as these could be symptoms of a heatstroke.
