State Crop Report for Week Ending June 24

Illinois experienced rain and cooler temperatures throughout the state last week. There were 3.2 days suitable for fieldwork during the week ending June 24. Statewide, the average temperature was 74.8 degrees, 1.2 degrees above normal. Precipitation averaged 2.26 inches, 1.28 inches above normal.

Topsoil moisture supply was rated at 1 percent very short, 8 percent short, 73 percent adequate, and 18 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated at 2 percent very short, 13 percent short, 77 percent adequate, and 8 percent surplus.

Corn silking reached 2 percent, compared to 1 percent for the 5-year average. Corn condition was rated at 1 percent very poor, 2 percent poor, 14 percent fair, 54 percent good, and 29 percent excellent.

Soybeans emerged was at 97 percent. Soybeans blooming reached 23 percent, compared with 6 percent last year. Soybean condition was rated at 1 percent very poor, 3 percent poor, 18 percent fair, 56 percent good, and 22 percent excellent.

Sorghum planted was at 93 percent. Sorghum condition was rated at 7 percent poor, 42 percent fair, 42 percent good, and 9 percent excellent.

Winter wheat harvest was 66 percent complete, compared to the 5-year average of 41 percent. Winter wheat condition was rated at 4 percent very poor, 9 percent poor, 34 percent fair, 45 percent good, and 8 percent excellent.
