A 4-wheeler crash in Fayette County resulted in the death of a Shobonier man and injury to a passenger.

Preliminary information from District 12 State Police indicate that at 12:05 a.m. Saturday, a 4-wheeler, driven by 23-year-old Billy Joe Tate Jr. of Shobonier, was traveling northeast on Fayette County Road 1150 North, near the intersection of County Road 1225 North.

The vehicle left the roadway, overturned, and pinned the driver and passenger to a tree.  Witnesses were able to pull the 4-wheeler off both victims, finding that the driver was unresponsive and not breathing.  The witnesses began CPR before Tate Jr. was transported by ambulance to Fayette County Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

The passenger, 19-year-old Macye T. Sarchet of Vandalia, was transported to Fayette County Hospital before being airlifted to Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis.
