Altamont Woman Injured in Monday Afternoon Crash

An accident with injuries occurred at 12:27 Monday afternoon two miles east of St. Peter on Rt 185 1/4 mile east of 2300 East, in Fayette County.

Ruth Smith, 65 of Altamont, was traveling in a minivan on Rt 185 west bound directly behind a semi driven by Gary Oberlink, 73 of Brownstown. Oberlink approached a maintenance road crew ¼ mile east of 2300 E, and a flagman had west bound traffic stopped and Oberlink came to a complete stop. Smith failed to reduce speed and rear ended Oberlink. 

Smith refused an ambulance but was transported in a personal vehicle to HSHS St Anthony’s Memorial Hospital in Effingham for treatment. 

She was cited for Failure to Reduce Speed to Avoid an Accident.
