Two people are dead as the result of an incident Wednesday evening in Louisville.

We'd like to correct our earlier report that the Clay County Sheriff's Department termed the incident an apparent murder/suicide. Sheriff Andy Myers said that his office did not report the incident as a murder/suicide, since they are not the investigating agency.

The deaths were apparently due to gunshots.

The Clay County State's Attorney's office has confirmed that Clay County sheriff's deputies responded to an address in Louisville to investigate a 911 hang up call. At the scene, deputies attempted to make contact with someone at the residence, but were unable to do so. Deputies were able to position themselves to view a portion of the interior of the residence, where they observed someone laying on the floor and who appeared to be unresponsive. Upon making entry into the residence, deputies located a male and female who were both dead. The two have been identified as 59-year-old Ann VanDyke and 61-year-old Mark Lane, both from Louisville.

Clay County State's Attorney Joel Powless said nothing has been confirmed to him as to who was the shooter in the incident. Powless said his office has not received any information regarding any possible suspects in the matter, nor are they aware of any other parties involved.

The investigation into the matter has been turned over to the Illinois State Police Zone 7 Investigations, Illinois State Police Crime Scene Services, and the Clay County Coroner's Office.
