There are new guidelines in the village of Teutopolis to help define what is "junk". The Village Board approved new definitions at Wednesday night's meeting.

It's part of an effort to clean up some properties. Village Clerk Sharon Will said letters will soon be going out to "6 or 7" residents notifying them of the need to clean things up.

The guidelines help address refuse, junk, nuisances and weeds.

The Board also heard from Mary Lou Esker, who would like a dedicated but never developed street west of Columbus Street vacated. Board members told Esker that she would need to get signatures from other property owners along the undeveloped street saying they are okay with the vacation before they would act on the request.

The Board approved the village Appointment Ordinance for the fiscal year that began May 1. Paul Weber was reappointed for a five-year term on the Village Board of Appeals, and Tom Buehnerkemper and Martin Hutmacher were reappointed for three-year terms on the Village Plan Commission.

Board members also agreed to close Route 40 for the Knights of Columbus Parade on June 10; awarded a bid for street maintenance materials to Charles Heuerman Trucking at the same price as last year; and retained Mark Kenter to conduct the village fiscal year audit.
