A Garden Grove, California man has been sentenced to four years in prison after being arrested in Fayette County in possession of heroin.

37-year-old Juan Contreras-Ibarra was arrested in October by an Illinois State Trooper patrolling I-70 east of Vandalia. The trooper stopped the minivan driven by Contreras-Ibarra just after 8am on a Sunday morning for speeding. During the traffic stop, $960,000 worth of heroin was discovered inside the minivan.

A Class X felony count of controlled substance trafficking was dismissed in exchange for the guilty plea to possession of controlled substance.

As part of the sentencing Friday, Contreras-Ibarra will serve two years of mandatory supervised release once out of prison.
